3 Creative Ideas to Break Your Social Media Slump

But what should I post?

I hear this question a lot when discussing social media marketing with clients. Every business knows they need to have a presence on social media, but few use it well. It takes creativity, intentionality and a ton of time to post thoughtful content on a regular basis.

Do you feel completely stuck as to what to post on social media? You’re certainly not alone. Strategic social media requires research and planning. If you’re in need of help with creating a strategic social media plan customized for your business, let’s chat.

If you just need a bit of creative inspiration, here are a few tips tp break you out of your fog.

  1. Research

Check out which webpages on your site that are garnering the most traffic. Take a walk down memory lane and review which past posts have performed really well. Take a gander at your competitor’s social media channels and see what content is getting the most engagement. Research is incredibly powerful in providing you insight on your audience and what they want to hear about most.

  2. Listen

As a piggyback on research, you should also spend time listening to your audience. Social media is meant to be an open forum of comments, ideas and feedback. Ask a question to your followers and listen to them. What words to they use? What recurring themes do you hear in reviews about your business? Listening can help you improve and better serve your audience by getting to know them more.

  3. Be Generous

Is there something you can give away to your audience for free that would be of value to them? Maybe you have insider tips or information that would be valuable, or perhaps your company has a tangible item that could benefit your followers. Starbucks gives used coffee grounds to customers so they can use it in their gardens, Dunkin gives away free donuts on National Donut Day, and McAllisters gives away free tea. Giving something away is not the same as a promotion. Don’t require a purchase, just show your company’s generosity and give something to your audience for free. I assure you, the positive brand perception will pay off.
